“Well-th:” Redefining Wealth for the Modern Age

By Hightower Advisors / January 30, 2020

What does wealth mean to you?

Historically, the answer to this question has been pretty cut and dry: to be wealthy is to have financial success, a generational inheritance, or a history of smart investments; to have wealth is to have money. But moving into the 2020s, the concept of wealth encompasses so much more than access to material riches. As the world grows ever more connected, so do our universal ideas about what living well looks like.

Financial advisors have long understood the deep ties between economic, emotional and physical prosperity. While finances may be a wealth manager’s core proficiency, many advisors find themselves acting as holistic life coaches, shepherding clients through family traumas and joys; through births, deaths, retirements and new career opportunities. Indeed, any advisor with a few years in the game can tell you that, for their clients, true wealth means a lot more than just money in the bank.

Hightower was founded on helping both advisors and end-clients achieve their personal definitions of wealth. Now in our second decade, it’s time we lead with that. Our new brand slogan, “well-th. rebalanced.” showcases our dedication to every aspect of wealth’s evolving definition. “Well-th” is about freedom, security, philanthropy and balance. It’s about collaborative partnerships in which advisory businesses are empowered to help clients meet their goals.

Everyone has a different definition of “well-th.” It’s our job to pinpoint that meaning and work with our staff, our advisors and their clients to help make their individual dreams of “well-th” a reality. Here’s what our focus on “well-th” means for the Hightower community.

A “well-th” of information

Community and collaboration are at the heart of all human success. At Hightower, our diverse, vibrant collection of advisors work alongside one another every day, learning, sharing and helping each other achieve their dreams. By giving each of our advisors the resources and the space to care for their clients in their own way, we are building a roadmap for the next generation of the advisory industry, creating a community that is laser-focused on unleashing potential for everyone, built on listening and empathy, which offers holistic life coaching through access to a curated suite of seminal resources and tools.

We believe there is well-th in knowledge, well-th in communication, and deep, lasting well-th in building relationships with others.

Connecting the dots between health and “well-th”

The U.S. government uses the term “health-related quality of life” (HRQoL) to measure the impact a person’s physical, mental and emotional health can have on their ability to live a happy, productive life. And as we noted in a recent blog post, health can be deeply affected by a person’s financial situation, as well as other life stressors.

According to a report from the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, “positive emotions and evaluations of life are associated with decreased risk of disease, illness, and injury; better immune functioning; speedier recovery; and increased longevity. People with high levels of wellbeing are more productive at work and are more likely to contribute to their communities.”

Hightower advisors understand that helping clients achieve well-th means connecting the dots between their finances, their health, and their happiness – whether that’s encouraging saving for emergencies, traveling the world, or managing healthcare costs in retirement, good advisors know that a firm grasp on a client’s financial life can lead them into to a longer, healthier life.
