Derrick Robinson Employee Spotlight – Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, we’re spotlighting our talented Black colleagues across Hightower. To kick us off, hear from Derrick Robinson, Head of IT Service Management, about his career path at Hightower, the significance of Black History Month, and the advice he gives to young people looking to enter the finance industry.

Q: Tell us about your role at Hightower and the experiences that shaped your path to where you are today.
A: I serve as Head of IT Service Management, overseeing IT & CRM Services, Identity & Access Management, Technology Procurement, and Endpoint Productivity. My path has been shaped by consistently raising my hand and showing initiative for opportunities to lead and drive impact when they arise.

Q: What does Black History Month mean to you personally?
A: For me, it is about honoring the past while intentionally elevating Black voices, history, and current experiences throughout the year.

Q: What advice would you give to young people of color looking to enter the finance industry?
A: Lean into industries that challenge you or lack representation. Impact is created where we show up authentically, and the finance industry offers tremendous personal and professional growth.

Q: What actions can colleagues take to support diversity and inclusion in their community?
A: Be intentional about building relationships and having meaningful conversations with people from different backgrounds; true inclusion begins with curiosity and courage.

Q: How would you describe the community and culture at Hightower?
A: Hightower’s culture continues to evolve positively, with growing intentionality that sets the foundation for sustainable and meaningful progress over time.
